From our house in the lush jungle, it is less than an hour’s drive on a gravel road down to the lively and welcoming Diani Beach of Kenya. Here you can enjoy a delicious coffee at one of the small, friendly cafes or a tasty lunch at a restaurant while you soak in the calm and colours of the African life. Golfing sessions might also entice some on the 18-hole golf course. It is well worth spending one or two nights in a beach house by the ocean, absorbing all the many luxuries and ocean activities that the East Coast of Africa has to offer.

For those seeking a lively and exotic culture, a trip to the historic city of Mombasa is a great way to spend the day. This historic city is shaped by Arabic, Portuguese, African and Indian influences. Here, traders have been coming from far away across the Indian Ocean for centuries to trade with the local population. The old town of Mombasa is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Fort Jesus is now a museum. The history of Mombasa is not only of trade but also of wars and slavery. With a local guide, you will learn about the town’s history as we wander through narrow streets, markets filled with exotic and colourful spices and the bustling local life.
